Here’s an Artist who’s destined to make a serious impact on several musical fronts. From opera to rap, N’Kenge’s performances are consistent in their technical excellence. Her musical repertoire covers 11 languages and her power and control are uncanny for someone so young.
Hailed by VARIETY as “a sensational powerhouse singer packed in a lithe body”, N’Kenge has been taking the music world by storm with her versatility and show stopping stage presence. N’Kenge made her Broadway debut in “Sondheim on Sondheim” and her West End debut in “The Genius of Ray Charles” along with her New York City Opera debut in “The Mother of Us All”. N’Kenge had the great honor to give a solo performance at the Commander-in-Chief’s Inaugural Ball hosted by President Obama. In addition, N’Kenge was seen singing “God Bless America” for the LA Dodgers Opening Game. Both events were televised through the US and Canada.
N’Kenge, born and raised in the Bronx and later moved to Brooklyn as a teenager, was always a child of music. At the tender age of three, her mother enrolled her daughter for dance and piano classes as a means of channeling her daughter’s unusual energy. This decision paid off with recitals and a piano scholarship by age six. However, when N’Kenge discovered that she possessed a singing voice this startlingly mature youngster began devoting herself to its full time development.
N’Kenge continued her studies at the H.S. School of Performing Arts, Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School winning kudos for her voice and beauty when she won the title as Miss Manhattan in the Miss America Pageant.
Anyone who has witnessed a performance by singer N’Kenge is not only amazed by the incredible power and range of her voice, they are often surprised at the sheer range of credits and accolades she has accumulated in a very short time. These include the White House where she sang for President Bill Clinton, solo engagements at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to name a few, even a worldwide broadcast by NPR from the Library of Congress in Washington, DC highlight the extent to which her star has risen.
Currently N’kenge is starring in the world tour of the “Michael Jackson Tribute Show”. This young and energetic singer was nominated for Best Actress in a musical for her portrayal of the leading role in the Elton John/Tim Rice Musical “Aida” in Arizona and in Washington DC, just finished a run of Marion Caffey’s 3 Mo’ Diva’s and was an original diva in the World Premiere, returns as a soloist in pop programs with the Detroit Symphony, Edmonton Symphony in Canada, Cincinnati Symphony and other symphonies.
